Democracy, minorities and Government; just a thought

Ian Kemmish comments on the BBC page about whether rioting ever achieves anything.



I'm not sure about the logic working about if you resort to violence you acknowledge you are a minority, but never mind that.

If, in a democracy a minority should never prevail, why do we have Governments elected by a minority of the population, hmm?

If you resort to violence, then you have already acknowledged both to yourself and to everybody else that you are in a minority. And, since we all want the UK to be a democratic society, then this means that your views should never prevail.
